LONDON, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) — Britain is facing an obesity crisis as there will be 13 million obese people in the country by 2010 if no action is taken, according to a government health report.     Around a third of adults and a fifth of children will be obese, and thousands more people are expected to suffer from related diseases such as cancer, heart disease and type 2 diabetes, Sky news reported on Friday.

The increasing consumption of junk food and the fall of physical exercise level are two major factors to blame for the trend, the report said.

It predicted that the cost of obesity to the National Health Service is expected to rise above its current 1 billion pounds (some 1.9 billion U.S. dollars) if the trend continues.

A total of 22 percent of girls and 19 percent of boys aged between two and 15 will be regarded as obese by 2010, the Department of Health figures suggested.

A third of men will be classified as obese, bringing the figure from 4 million to 7 million in the next four years.

Prime Minister Tony Blair on Tuesday ordered Public Health Minister Caroline Flint to work with all government departments to develop a new fitness strategy for the country. Enditem
