GMR Group of Companies foray into sponsorship

The GMR Group, builders of the country’s first Greenfield airport at Shamshabad, outside Hyderabad, has made a foray into cricket sponsorship by purchasing three corporate boxes at the Rajiv Gandhi International cricket stadium at Uppal. As an advance towards the Rs. 3.5crore agreement, Dr. Vijay Vancheswar, Group Head and Vice-President, GMR Group, handed over a cheque for Rs. 2crore to the Hyderabad Cricket Association’s President, G. Vinod, Minister of Labour, Government of Andhra Pradesh at a press conference here on Monday.
The agreement will be valid for 25 years and will entitle the corporate house to three 20 seater air-conditioned boxes on the second floor, branding space of about 700 feet, 100 VIP passes for all international fixtures at the ground and nomenclature of the eastern stand as the GMR stand.

“By associating with this stadium, we at GMR Group wish to demonstrate our commitment to enhance the standard of cricket and sports in general, for the great city of Hyderabad, ” said Dr. Vancheswar on the occasion. President G. Vinod termed the partnership as path breaking and stressed on sponsorship support for sport’s growth. HCA Secretary and former Test off-spinner N. Shivalal Yadav hoped this was the beginning of a glorious and long standing relationship, which would benefit coming generations.
