HCL, Intel Launch First WiMax enabled Nettops
HCL Infosystems and chipmaker Intel announced the launch of the first of WiMax-enabled nettops and laptops in the country. The product will be commercially available within three months. Said Ajai Chowdhry, chairman and CEO, HCL Infosystems.“The cost of the devices will be a bit higher than conventional laptops, as it includes the WiMax access device,” said Chowdhry. The laptops will be powered by intel’s Atom processor. WiMax allows mobile broadband access with speeds up to 10 Mbps. It is ideal for remote and rural areas where last mile connectivity has not yet reached. State-run Bharat sanchar Nigam Limited plans to start rolling out WiMax broadband services in about 1,000 blocks in the country by November 2009.
