Mumbai under Terror Attacks

Indian Security forces have surrounded 2 hotels in Mumbai, the Trident Oberoi and the Taj Mahal Palace. But the situation at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel remains confused, with explosions and gunfire heard coming from inside the hotel and severe attacks on Wednesday so far left more than 100 people died.

Maharashtra state police chief AN Roy is quoted by the AFP news agency said that “We are in the final stages of operations. We are confident that we’ll be able to counter the terrorists.” Mr. Roy did not say how many gunmen were still thought to be inside the two hotels. He said there were no hostages at the Taj Mahal Palace, but “still quite a few” at the Trident Oberoi.

Burglars On Mobile Shop

Burglars gained entry into a mobile store at Ashok Nagar and stole Ruppees2.5 lakh worth property on Saturday night. According to the Chikkadpally inspector of police (detective), N Sudhakar Reddy, burglars gained entry into the Planet M store at Ashok Nagar and escaped with 56 cell phones and Rs 24,000 cash. The main shutter lock was forcely opened and on Sunday local persons noticed the theft and alerted the shop management.

Based on the complaint the police registered a theft case under the sections 457 and 380 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).

22-Year Girl Hangs

Swathi, a software professional committed suicide whose marriage with a relative was fixed recently, on Sunday who committed suicide by hanging a ceiling fan

Her residence but her parents alleged that she might have taken the step due to dowry demand.

A suicide note written by Swati, was found on the spot which said “no one is responsible for my death. I am obese and not fit to be a good wife to a relative,” police said.

Swati’s marriage was recently fixed with a relative, police said that Swati was stated to be under depression for quite some time and hanged herself to the ceiling fan this afternoon at her residence in Amberpet.

The parents of Swati, however, complained to the police that their daughter might have taken the decision by abused her relatives for additional dowry proposal.

Kenya killing reach 300

Kenya crisis reached its worst on Thursday as the number of homicide turned 300. Reports said that the Nairobi morgue is crowded with dead bodies of children and babies in the shelves.

The crisis arose due to the continuous protest in connection with the December 27 presidential election where current President Mwai Kibaki retains its position against Odinga. Raila Odinga, the opposition candidate declared the incident as a “grand scale genocide” after touring the freezing morgue and seeing the dead bodies.

Meanwhile, Odinga’s supporters were dispersed by police tear gas and water cannons as they rally against the election results.

Suspects from Oviedo murder arrested

Other suspects from Jean Cuddy Oviedo murder were arrested Thursday by Columbian authorities.

Oviedo was said to be on Vacation to Columbia with her family when the suspects got into their house with the intention of robbery. Laptop, mobile phones and credit cards were taken when no cash was found in the house. Santander head of police, Gen. Alvaro Miranda reported that the suspect who killed Oviedo with a fatal shot in the neck was arrested first from its Bucaramanga safe house in Santander on Wednesday.

Oviedo’s relatives and friends were very glad and thankful to the local authorities for the arrest of the suspects.

Temple stampede in India killed five devotees

The recent stampede in Shri Durga Malleswara temple in India killed five devotees and injured several people. The incident happened when thousands of Hindu devotees rush to garland the Durga statue located in the temple.

CV Anand, the city’s chief of police blamed the tragedy to the people managing the temple due to inadequate security measures. He also cited that the temple has only one door for its entry and exit causing the stampede to arise. Among the five casualties were four women and five of the injured were in serious state.

The ceremony however continued after the incident.

Turkish bomb blast killed 4 people

Kurdish terrorist were said to be the people behind bomb detonation in Diyarbakir, southeastern part of turkey that killed around 5 people and injured 52.

The explosion reportedly targets the military bus passing through a five star hotel in the city proper around 4:55 pm, Thursday. Six cars and nearby buildings and glass wall of the establishments were destroyed by the attack. Injured civilians were rushed to Kurdish military hospital for immediate treatment.

The government however admits the lack of evidence pointing the bomb blast to Kurdish activist and now securing the area in case of follow up attacks.

Two social volunteers freed from Somalian gangs

The two abducted volunteers were released safely after being kidnapped by 6 gunmen on December 26 in Somalia.

Reports said that the two women, Dr. Mercedes Garcia from Spain and Pilar Bauza, a nurse from Argentina, were captured a week ago while going to their destination in Puntland to aid malnourish Somalian children. Spanish ambassador Nicolas Martin Cinto happily noted in his speech that no ransom money has been paid to the kidnappers and thanked everyone who helps for the release of these two social workers.

The two women stayed in a hotel in Somali after being released unscathed while waiting for their Thursday flight back home.

Former Ms. Pima Country accused of torturing ex-boyfriend

Kumari Fulbright, a current law student and a former beauty queen bailed out of Arizona jail where she was accused of torturing and imprisoning a former boyfriend. A court report in December 18 noted that Fulbright with the help of another former boyfriend and two other men detained and tortured the victim in her apartment, biting him in the arms and threatening him with gun and butcher’s knife.

The man escaped from Kumari’s house and ran for help to the neighboring home. He ran to the authorities with his bite marks and swollen bodies. Meanwhile the police are still searching for Fulbright’s other accomplice as the investigation continuous.

China to replace execution with lethal injection

China government being the top country in carrying death penalty will use lethal injection in replace of mere shooting execution.

China currently executes inmates by shooting at the back. Minor crimes to other countries like tax evasion, stealing, rape, robbery, and drug felony cause death penalty in Chinese government.

Supreme Court vice president Jiang Xingchang told the China Press that lethal injection will be implemented by the 404 Intermediate People’s Courts for its execution process upon securing professional training and complete facilities. This move as Xingchang noted is more acceptable and humanitarian to Chinese people.

Leads in the Ajmer blast case are pointing to the involvement of Harkat ul-jehad i islami. The blast at the famous dargah of Khwaja Moinuddin chisti may have been planned by Huji operative Shahis Bilal.

Fake note racket busted in Suryapet

Fake noteThe Surya Pet Police busted amajor conterfeit currency racket here by arresting five persons belonging to Guntur and Nalgonda districts on Sunday.

Fake currency notes of Rs100 denomination worth Rs12 lakh, a printer and machines used for the purpose were recovered from their hideout. Superintendent of Police Vijay Kumar told reporters that a police team led by Circle Inspector M.Tirupatanna nabbed two persons at Manchikallu and Palvi of Rentachintala mandal in Guntur district on the basis of information provided by the three accused persons who had been detained during a vehicle checking exercise at Durajpally crossroads.

The gang reportedly circulated Rs.32,000 at Miryalaguda eight months ago before being caught by the police.he CI said that Keshaboina Sekar and Gummula Chandrasekhar had met in Gurajala sub-jail in 1999 and hatched the plan to make easy money printing and circulating the fake currency notes.

HIV +ve mom finally gets kid’s custody

A woman whose nine-years-old daughter was taken from her by a lower court and given in stead to her in-laws who threw her out because she had contracted HIV from her husband won custody of the girl after a Jaiur court ruled in her favour on Friday.

The woman was married in 1995 and contracted HIV from her soldier husband. When he died in 2003, her in-laws threw her out because she was HIV positive and refused to let the toddler go with her Hoping that the legal system would be less blinkered than her community and peers, she filed an application in an additional civil judge’s court seeking custody of her daughter. That, however, ws not to be. On september 17, civil judge and judicial magistrate Madhusudan Roy observed that she should not be given custody since she was HIV-positive.

ICICI pays up Rs 15.5 lakh after suicide over loan

A little more than a week after Andhari resident Prakash Sarvankar committed suicide after being hounded by loan recovery agents appointed by ICICI Bank, his family jas recived an ex gratia payment of Rs15.50 lakh from the bank. This includes a fixed deposit of around Rs 10 lakh which will be maintained with ICICI Bank at 9.5% intrest per annum for five years. This would ensure a monthly payout of around Rs 8,000 to the family.

“The money will not get my husband back, but it will help secure my childrens’ future,” his widow Priyanka said. “i want to thank the media for following up on the issue. No borrower should ever suffer the way we have. The agents threatened to seal our house if my husband didn’t pay up, and humiliated him in public.”

Two japanese allege rape in Agra hotel

Two Japanees women have alleged that they were repeatedly raped by three men in Agra after one of the accused, who spoke Japanese, lured them to a hotel and offered drinks laced with sedatives.

The two tourists lodged a complaint with the IGI airport police on Saturday night saying that they were assaulted at least twice after falling unconscious. first on Thursday and then the next day. Delhi police saidan FIR had been regestered and the case immediately transferred to Agra.

Agra SSP Naveen Arora said the two women, aged 22 and 23, left for Japan on Sunday. They had arrived in Delhi on Sept. 15 and after two days left for Jaipur. From there they took a taxi to Agra. The women were unable to tell the hotel name but had photos of the men on their mobiles which have been passed on to the police in Agra.
